Today was definitely my most productive and interesting one at the office so far. I started by writing letters to Renee Montgomery and Val Ackerman to see if they would be interested in getting involved with the Aurora Games. It feels good to be doing something already to help make an impact at SPIRE and I appreciate the trust that has been put in me to work on this. After working on the letters in the morning. I got to hop on to the weekly calls for the media and marketing department where they talk about social media and other ways that they can gain more attention for SPIRE’s camps and programs. The current head of social media is actually away for the next two weeks as he is preparing for the olympic trials in California. Due to his absence, I should see more opportunities to work in that field in the next few weeks. I hope that this will give me the chance to continue to work in areas that I already know, but also to build my skillset and try out some new and different things that can be useful to me down the road. We have already scheduled for me to come in this weekend as there is a large basketball tournament. I will be taking pictures and some other videos that we will use to post on social media. I will also be talking to some of the academy students for some other potential promotions that we will be doing online. I ended the day by sitting in on one of Mr. Orloff’s calls where he was talking to potential sponsors of the Aurora Games. I am now realizing that I actually might not be able to say who the company is, but it was really interesting to listen in and hear all the details of how these conversations go in the business of the sports world. This is obviously very applicable to what I want to pursue as sports business and journalism go hand in hand in many cases, meaning that I should be able to use this knowledge in the future.
