Blog 3 (5/25)

Today was definitely my most productive and interesting one at the office so far. I started by writing letters to Renee Montgomery and Val Ackerman to see if they would be interested in getting involved with the Aurora Games. It feels good to be doing something already to help make an impact at SPIRE and I appreciate the trust that has been put in me to work on this. After working on the letters in the morning. I got to hop on to the weekly calls for the media and marketing department where they talk about social media and other ways that they can gain more attention for SPIRE’s camps and programs. The current head of social media is actually away for the next two weeks as he is preparing for the olympic trials in California. Due to his absence, I should see more opportunities to work in that field in the next few weeks. I hope that this will give me the chance to continue to work in areas that I already know, but also to build my skillset and try out some new and different things that...

Blog 2 (5/21)

Today marks the end of my first half-week working at SPIRE. These first few days have been even more captivating than I initially expected. I spend the first two days learning more about the campus, meeting the staff, and getting an understanding of what Mr. Orloff does for his work. I got to sit in on some interesting meetings from the jump. SPIRE has set programs in basketball, swimming, and track. I was able to sit in on the bi-weekly meetings that they have for these programs and understand more about how these programs are run. On Thursday, I was assigned my first individual task, doing some additional research on the Aurora Games. The Aurora games are an event the SPIRE will host in 2022 that is focused on highlighting women in sports. Mr. Orloff had me do some work and research on how I think they could make the event better. He said that my younger perspective could be interesting and helpful in giving input on how to run the event. I took note of some of the problems that...

Tomorrow, I will begin my work at the SPIRE Institute with Jeff Orloff. I am very excited to begin work although the drive will be a bit of a pain in the neck. I am using this project to work as an intern. SPIRE obviously has a good deal of significance in the athletic field in greater Cleveland, so I hope that it will allow me to gain a wide variety of experiences. Mr. Orloff is also a well connected individual who I hope I can get some valuable insight from. I also hope he can provide me with some new connections which are very important in this field. I feel that furthering my career is one of the best things that can come out of senior projects and I think I have found a great way to do that.
