Blog 4 (5/27)

 Unfortunately, these last two days have not been quite as eventful. I did get to help with a few of the students who are training at SPIRE which was quite informative. The media team is trying to make some short videos to highlight the athletes and their experiences here at SPIRE. I got to learn more about what life is like for them here at the institute, and why they chose to come here. Some of their stories are definitely quite interesting as there are students here from Asia, Africa, Europe, South America, and North America. The diversity is definitely interesting and it makes me want to learn more about how they heard about SPIRE and got here in the first place. I also got to do some further work on the Aurora Games. Mr. Orloff had me do some research on a new potential partner for the event, Peloton. Peloton has recently decided to build a new, one-million-square-foot manufacturing complex in Troy, OH. This will be Peloton's largest establishment in North America and therefore, could be a good, local opportunity to pair with the company. We also got on a call with the manager of the event, Jerry Solomon, in order to discuss potential ideas and partners to get in contact with to raise funds for the event. I am excited as this weekend (as I have already mentioned) I will get the chance to take some photos and videos for SPIRE to use at an AAU tournament. I actually recently got a new device that helps take smoother shots that I am excited to use. Photography has always been something that I was interested in, but never really had enough time to actually go and really work on it. I hope that this weekend will be a good opportunity to take some pictures, work on my project, and improve my skills.

Blog 7 (6/8)

  In the past two days, I have had a lot of opportunities that I've been unique and I've really enjoyed. On Monday morning, there was a whole staff meeting where was able to introduce myself to those of the staff that I didn't get to know which was definitely helpful as I was able to talk to them in a professional setting I also was able to listen into what they were talking relating to the camps that they'll be running over the summer and other things of that sort which is definitely good to hear about how they're going to organize things they also had some exciting news relating to their basketball team where they actually signed two very high-level players from Italy to come play here next year. The bulk of what I've been working on over the past few days has mainly been working on a 7v7 football tournament that SPIRE will be doing for hopefully next year. Blog 6 (6/4)

 Unfortunately, I was unable to make it to work today as I was feeling pretty under the weather. I think that this second half of the week overall has been pretty productive. Two of the summer interns for the office joined us for the past couple of days, (including a Hawken alum) so I have been getting the chance to know them and show them a little bit about what I have learned and basically just help to get them acclimated. I again got to sit in on (my last round of) department meetings. They were overall filled with a lot of positive news as there has been a lot of growth in the number of campers attending this summer over the past two weeks. I also got to hear about another event that will be coming to SPIRE, which is a national throws championship. This competition will have athletes under 20 come to SPIRE to compete in throwing events such as discus, javelin, and hammer. Blog 5 (6/1)

 Unfortunately, I was unable to go to work on Friday as Mr. Orloff was out of the office, but in order to make up for time lost, I was able to go to SPIRE on Saturday and recorded some video, and took some pictures of games during the tournament. I actually had a super good time watching some highly touted players from Northeast Ohio. I also honestly got to take some super cool pictures with my dad's nice camera which was great. I also was able to use a new DJI stabilizer with my phone. The stabilizer makes it so that shots that you take with your phone are smooth and look much cleaner than if I was just using my hands. On Tuesday, I got to go sit in on the full-faculty meeting. I have never been to one of these so it actually was beneficial as I was able to learn how these proceedings went and what would be normal for me to expect in the future.
