Final Reflection (6/9)

Overall, I'm super grateful for the time that I got to spend working on this project. I was initially inspired to work at SPIRE because I was really interested and am really interested in pursuing something in the line of sports, journalism and sports business, or something in that field. This opportunity was a pretty easy conclusion as, obviously, SPIRE is a big sports complex. I was able to do a lot of work across different fields that interest me and learn a lot. That was definitely super beneficial in terms of reflecting on what went well. I think I definitely was very involved, especially compared to the level of effort that some people put into their projects. I was there every day over, over the time that we had and really enjoyed myself there. I even got offered to have an internship over the summer, which they do not normally offer to kids my age. I think I made the most out of my time, I was able to make connections, I was able to send out emails, and actually really work to better myself at things that I want to improve on in my field. It was very engaging because I was really enjoying what I was doing, which definitely made it much easier, in terms of what I was hoping to learn and accomplish, I think I got to learn more about what an office experience was like and what it's like working in an office space, which I didn't have any experience with before. I think that was certainly valuable in an underrated way. For things that I could've improved upon, I unfortunately did have time constraints because of how far away spires from my house, so maybe one negative definitely was how far away it is. In terms of things I could do to improve, I'd say most of the time I kept myself really busy, but sometimes I would just get a little bit distracted. I'd say in general, I made the most out of my time though. Again, I learned a lot about what it's like to be in an office space. I learned how these sorts of proceedings in business go because I haven't had a lot of experience and in those veins. I've never taken any sort of business oriented class at Hawken. So this was a unique experience because I was able to spend my time with Mr. Orloff and learn about it firsthand, which was really helpful. In terms of Hawken's partnership with SPIRE, definitely if there's another senior project intern who wants to do something similar to what I'm doing, I would certainly recommend this opportunity. It was great. I had a great time, and everyone there was super welcoming. In terms of what I'd say to juniors and seniors and planning their project, something that I didn't do was definitely go out ahead time and work to plan on your project. I unfortunately had some issues with mine, but wasn't able to secure what I was doing until somewhat last minute, which wasn't super fun. So getting out ahead of your project is definitely beneficial. An important takeaway that I had in the end was show gratitude to those who help you, because I think that that's, uh, just, uh, obviously a great way to show respect, but also obviously when someone's going to help you out and take the time out of their own day to assist you, then they deserve your thanks. I got a lot of that and also heard a lot of people tell me things along those lines while I was working at Spire, just showing gratitude. So definitely something that I'll make sure to keep working on and keep remembering to do. .

  1. Your takeaway about gratitude and building relationships is huge! This applies to every line of work, every field. People matter and it sounds like you get that! Glad it was a good experience and kudos to you for demonstrating your ability to contribute so as to be offered a summer internship. I suspect this is the first of many times when your efforts, interests, and talents will make companies want to keep you! Congratulations on a successful Hawken Project!
